The week before she is to testify at her estranged husband’s trial on drug charges, firefighter Lieutenant Samantha Collins vanishes while combating a warehouse fire, leaving only her helmet behind.

With Sam missing, her mother seeks the help of Florida Omni Search, a nonprofit organization founded by Rachel Scott, whose own daughter, Mallory, disappeared when only three years old. Rachel has worked with law enforcement agencies all over the United States, but she can’t possibly anticipate how terrifying the Sam Collins case will be. Rachel learns of Sam’s husband’s drug operation, and as she digs deeper, not only does the investigator expose Sam’s surprising past, she also uncovers clues that could reveal what happened to her own daughter.

The second book in the Rachel Scott series, Burn Out is a Traci Hohenstein original, an emotionally charged mystery-thriller that takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride of plot twists, turns, and startling surprises.

I am an avid reader. For a period of time it seemed like whenever I opened my Kindle, Traci Hohenstein's books were being advertized. So I figured 'what the heck' as cheap as they were, I would take a chance & bought all 5 of them before reading any part of any of them. BIG MISTAKE! I started with the "prequel" titled Look For Me. My 1st tip-off should have been that it is only 80+ pages and cost only 99 cents. Less than 30 pages into the book I was ready to contact Amazon to try to get a refund on all 5 books, but I decided to read on and hope it got better. It did but just barely. I am a retired high school teacher & during my career I read countless essays, book reports, creative writing assignments, etc.., many written by 9th and 10th graders that were better written than Hohenstein's prequel. On numerous occasions she used adverbs when she should have been using adjectives and vice versa. At times she even used archaic & hyperbolic adjectives as if she was trying to impress the reader with her vocabulary. Her plot was thinly developed. Her descriptive narrative was almost non-existent. Throughout the book I was thinking 'where is her editor and proof-reader'? They should have been catching all these glaringly obvious grammatical mistakes! This is an author who is supposed to have a journalism background but it certainly does not show in her books. I began to think the publisher of her books must be one of those places where the author has to pay the publisher to print the books. I later found out that the publisher is actually a subsidiary of Amazon, so that speaks for itself. After getting through the prequel, the other 4 books were actually a little better, but not by much. Her writing improves slightly with each book. This is the 2nd book in her Rachel Scott series. Her female characters follow a similar description: blonde shoulder length hair worn up in a bun or pulled back in a pony tail, attractive, athletic. All of her characters, male & female, typically wear t-shirts & jeans at all times day & night. She has no real concept of spatial perspective and distance. In all of her books, many times, the physical action that takes place is so improbable & unrealistic that it is laughable. Don't waste your time or money on any of these books.

Burn Out A Rachel Scott Adventure Book 2 edition by Traci Hohenstein Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

This is not my usual type of novel, but it was well written, contained enough excitement and suspense to be entertaining but seemed to underplay what seemed to be the most significant happenings. The addition of information about Rachel's daughter at the end almost made the story itself anticlimactic. In my opinion that would have been a better opening.
I enjoyed this book. I was first told about it by my Boss. He had told me he had found out about this book when he was on a plane and the man next to him struck up a conversation with him. It turned out the man was the father of the author and had told my Boss about this book. When he heard I had purchased a kindle he suggested this book as a good book. I bought it not thinking it was the type of book I would read.

I must say I am glad he suggested it to me. I hope the author writes more books so I can see what other tales of adventure that she might have put to paper.
In this book her new case is looking for Samantha Collins a firefighter who after rescuing a person from a fire does not come out. Only her helmet is found. Her husband's case on drug charges begins shortly. Can this be related? And so begins the hunt. I don't like to go into too much detail as I don't want to spoil the outcome. In pursing the search for Sam, she comes upon some clues that leads her to believe her daughter Mallory is still alive. If in doubt read the first few chapters, I promis you'll be hooked.
I have enjoyed reading this authors books. They are well written and easy to read. I like her characters, she gives them personally and you feel like you would like to see more of them. I really look forward to reading more of this authors books.
A missing persons investigator series is a great idea and I'm glad I got to read Burn Out, the first in the series.

Rachel Scott is the main character and head of Florida Omni Search, a missing person's investigation group. In Burn Out, Rachel is leading the investigation to find a missing firefighter. Rachel's character is intriguing because her motivation behind the creation of the search group was the disappearance of her own daughter. I could definitely feel for this character having a daughter of my own so I immediately felt connected to the story.

Hohenstein did a nice job of developing authentic characters and the several different story lines were easy to follow. I think you'll enjoy this read and find yourself looking forward to the next Rachel Scott investigation.
So the first book in this series was exciting and great, but this second book started out good but as I kept getting closer to the end I became dissapointed. I feel like Traci was writing this book and suddenly decided she needed to finish it and had done so over night.
This was my first that I read by this author and it is well written. I did not guess who was the "bad guy" in the story which is important to me. It was a short read for me s it only took a few hours, but that is okay. Characters are believable and story line was good, except when the missing person investigator then decides to go after the "bad guy". What was that? They just don't do that! What I did notice that was really irritating after a while, was that somebody should have proofread the book! There were so many editing errors that it became an "o well, another misspelled word or another word left out". I would not categorize it with any of the great authors, but worth the couple bucks for kindle. Above all, DO NOT spend any $15.00 for a hardcover edition even if it does have another story inside! That is not worth it in my opinion! All in all, take this review for what it is, my opinion.
